It’s no secret to say that this past year has thrown in a number of challenges for businesses, in particular, SMEs. It has left some business owners feeling incredibly anxious about what is to come.

But with restrictions having been lifted, and the economy picking up, some positivity shines through. We can imagine how businesses who might have felt gloomy about their future can begin to see a glimmer of hope in the distance. For businesses that are feeling optimistic, nearly a third of firms expect their income to increase, with those in retail, arts and hospitality being the most hopeful, despite having been hit the hardest by consecutive lockdowns.

At WorkLife, we think this is extremely encouraging to see. Steve Bee, our director noted that “despite the immense challenges, UK SMEs have continued to adapt and embody the entrepreneurial spirit our country is famous for,” showing his admiration for the hope that SMEs are showing at this time.
